We have been notified that this week, February 6th - 10th, there is an initiative called BLM Week of Action and that many school districts across Connecticut have chosen to teach items from the curriculum and lesson resources provided on their website.
You can look through their modules here: www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com/curriculum.html
Stamford Parents United always encourages parents to talk to their children about what they are learning in school and to review their assignments. To uphold the First Amendment, students must be presented with multiple perspectives. Students must not just be able to speak and express themselves freely, but also freely receive information and ideas.
"The State may not, consistent with the spirit of the First Amendment, contract the spectrum of available knowledge." - Griswold v. Connecticut, 381 U.S. 557, 564 (1965)
We are working with the legal team at the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) and we are ready to address the district with any issues.
Please contact StamfordParentsUnited@gmail.com if you have any concerns this week or at any time about what your child in learning or experiencing in the Stamford Public Schools.
